· More or less his canon backstory. Grows up inseparable from Hikaru and indistinguishable from him. Develops aversion to trusting people but matures a lot faster than his twin. · Hikaru and Kaoru begin manifesting magical abilities around 10. Rather than lose both heirs, their mother sends them to Antiva. · While in Antiva they go to prestigious school, start a host club, etc, while receiving downlow but well paid tutorship in magic. · Kaoru gravitates towards creation magic; Hikaru develops primarily in the entropy school. · They meet Haruhi, a scholarship student, and for the first time someone can tell them apart! Cue growth and maturity. · He develops as someone really trained with reading emotions because his brother has some issues. Kaoru is pretty much always the level head – under normal conditions. (Note: He is however pretty much 100% clueless about violence.) · He realizes he’s falling in love with the same girl his brother loves so he does the rational thing of … taking her out on a date (that was originally set up for Hikaru), telling her the truth and then saying he’s not going to pursue her because he loves his brother more. That’s healthy. · Kaoru realizes they need to develop as individuals, etc etc. Rather than stay with everyone in Antiva, he leaves to go to the University of Orlais and study fashion design. Mage rebellion!! Chaos. Hikaru pleads with Kaoru to return to Antiva, he almost does, then decides he can do more good here and sees how the poor of Val Royeaux are suffering so he does the super healthy thing of… sneaking around as an apostate healer to help when he can. · Hikaru, unable to return safely due to the increased chaos, hires a Crow to keep his idiot brother alive. Fortunately for said Crow, Kaoru isn’t using multi-patterned fabrics too much anymore. Praise independence.
